Magic Rooms for Children

03 September 2015

With the children now back at school, it’s the ideal time to look at renewing the interior design of their bedrooms, to breathe a magical new look into their world. We love the exciting and imaginative flair we can bring to children’s spaces, whether it’s a boys’ room, girls’ room, a playroom, or a little ones’ nursery.

Here are ten of our favourite fabrics and wallpapers of the moment, all of which are available at Harpers, to help you create playful spaces for children:

1) This fabric and wallpaper by Manuel Canovas makes us dream of flying in the air, up into the sky and into the carefree land of childhood! These delicately detailed balloons have a refined colour palette and are seen here in ‘multicolore’ version.

2) Lina design by Manuel Canovas – this absinthe coloured pixel design is reminiscent of retro video games. We can see it as a fabulous addition for soft furnishing accents.

3) We adore this charmingly interpreted, old-fashioned push-bike design for fabric or wallpaper. Shown here in poppy, charcoal and biscuit colourway.

4) Delicately embroidered multi-coloured butterflies on a soft cotton ground. This ‘Flutterby’ fabric is a must for little princesses everywhere!

5) Jane Churchill’s design of meadow flower fairies harks back to nostalgically innocent times. Lovely for pretty chair upholstery and soft furnishings, particularly stunning for a period property.

6) Country living through the eyes of a child – these silhouettes of prancing ponies inlaid with posy florals, would appeal to all little pony lovers.

7) Paddington made a comeback in the cinemas recently, so this wonderfully British design will please little fans of Paddington, as well as satisfy fond memories held by mummy & daddy! A winner for little boys’ rooms.

8) Create a vintage feel with the adorable ‘two by two’ Abracazoo designs. Perfect for a toddler’s nursery, with jolly animals adorning the walls for hours of traditional fun.

9) This unique ‘paintbox design by Andrew Martin, of artist’s brushes and painting materials on shelves, makes for a soft but instant impact. Great for arty children.

10) We feel this wall covering by Casamance would appeal from small boyhood through to teenagers years – and perhaps even in a playful study for the young-at-heart! A bold wall covering, digitally printed onto vinyl with a luxury texture and finish.
